Around 7 months we found out Charlie was allergic to eggs. Our nanny had given her a tiny (size of a dime) piece of scrambled egg (with our permission of course) and she had an allergic reaction. She started out itching like crazy, then her face became swollen with hives. The hives and rash continued down her arms and hands. When I got the call at work, I sped home as fast I could because we didn't have any benadryl at home. I was praying the whole way home that our nanny wouldn't call me saying she had to take her to the ER because her airway was becoming obstructed or something like that. Luckily, the situation wasn't worse and everything seemed fine after an hour or so.
At Charlie's 9 month appointment, the pediatrician suggested we get her blood drawn to confirm the egg allergy. After going through this and receiving the confirmation, we made an appointment with a pediatric allergist.
The allergist suggested doing some other testing, because you know, odds are she is allergic to something else he said. We tested for nuts, seeds, soy, and the flu vaccination.
As you can see, Charlie is also allergic to nuts (especially cashews). Yes, I'm now a peanut butter mom. You know the ones that ask if peanut butter is in every single thing...or the ones that prohibit their child from eating anything baked at another home just in case there was cross contamination with nuts. The allergist said she will most likely grow out of the egg allergy (and can probably eat pasta, baked goods, etc.) and has a 20 percent change of growing out of the peanut allergy. So here's to positive thinking!

Oh my goodness! Look at that poor baby! I know your nerves must be in overdrive. However, those pink moccasins are probably the cutest things ever!
Poor baby! Most kids do typically grow out of their allergies, so here's to hoping Charlie does too!
For now, enjoy being the peanut butter mom. ;) lol
I hate this so much for you guys! I hope she eventually grows out of it! I developed severe allergies in college, so I feel for her! PS Tiny Prints makes super cute allergy alert cards if you ever need to send them with her somewhere: http://www.tinyprints.com/product/23412/allergy_alert_cards_monster_wasabi.html
Poor thing! At least you discovered her allergies before anything major happened and now you can just keep an eye on it.
is she allergic to both nuts and peanuts? because they are 2 very different allergies. if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. i've been living with a peanut allergy for 21 years now. hopefully she grows out of them, although i was told i would never grow out of my food allergy. but trust me, it's definitely not the end of the world. you all will adjust and be just fine, i promise!
Oh and I'm surprised I didn't think of this when I saw you in person - but I have a small nut allergy - ESPECIALLY CASHEWS! My throat gets very scratchy and its hard to swallow when I eat them. In high school and college it was pretty bad, I ate a peanut butter cookie one day (I can eat peanuts fine) and my throat started to close up....little did I know there were finely chopped nuts all in it! - but now I think its pretty much gone away. Not that I eat cashews on the regular - but they are in a lot of the granolas I buy and I eat those just fine now. :) Praying for that little baby!!
Omg, I would have been freaking out too!! I gave Maverick some eggs a few weeks ago and waited for something to happen. Thankfully he didn't have a reaction. Now I am dying to try peanut butter!
Her little back! Bless her heart :(
Hopefully she will grow out of this but till then, sending positive thoughts your way!!!
Poor girl! I'm glad the allergic reaction wasn't more serious and that she turned out fine..hopefully she grows out of these!!! Glad she's alright, though :)
Oh no! Poor girl - I've had that allergy testing and it's no fun. It looks like she was a trouper though. Fingers crossed that she does grow out of it, and good for you with positive thinking in the meantime.
p.s. my dad has lots of great vegan cake recipes if you need anything egg-free for her party... the book he uses is http://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Cupcakes-Take-Over-World/dp/1569242739. They're amazing. Otherwise I think Melt (in Northside) does some vegan baking.
Bless her tiny little heart. She's so stinkin cute in that diaper.
Aww I hope she grows out of these! My boss' littlest son is allergic to a lot of things but it sounds like their family just has a routine down for him! I have a friend who developed a dairy + a whole bunch of random other foods allergy at 19! She's sad she already knows how delicious sour cream is :( So I think Charlie being little and not knowing kind of helps?!
Poor girl! Hope she outgrows it too!
